Carolyn was again trying to tighten the budget, so the crew was currently sleeping in the passenger cabin. They were in separate rows, covered with blankets and reclined in the seats. Arthur was snoring loudly. Douglas was less loud. Carolyn was breathing with a snort every now and then. Martin wasn't sleeping.

He was asleep for the first few hours, before he started having nightmares. It started out with him driving the van and coming up to his next delivery, where he saw an old classmate. They proceeded to laugh at him, telling him that he didn't go anywhere and didn't become the pilot that he wanted to become. He tried to tell him that he was a captain, but the retort stuck in his throat. He kept carrying boxes while crying.

He woke silently that time. Tear tracks were on his face and he wiped them away quickly before moving toward the bathroom. He quickly got himself sorted before moving back and lying back down. He brought up the blankets again and trying. He finally fell back into sleep after counting aeroplanes.

The second nightmare was worse. He was being yelled at by Carolyn, who was berated him for something that he had nothing to do with. She fired him, without letting him argue his side. He tried to get a job as a pilot somewhere else, but no airline wanted him. Douglas had ended up Captain of Gertie. He showed himself off by wearing Martin's former epaulets to everyone he met. He spotted Martin and pointed. Everyone started laughing. He tried moving away from the crowd, but people started laughing whenever they caught sight of him.

Douglas had woken up to work out a kink in his back. He was ready to settle back when he heard the frantic twist and turning two rows back. His eyes focused on Martin and he walked over, knowing that the man was ready to wake up and possibly scream. Carolyn will not like being awaken for anything other than an emergency. He walked back and noticed tear tracks. Again with the nightmares. He wiped them away with his thumb. He had hoped that it would wake him up. It didn't.

He woke up this time with a hand over his mouth. He immediately started fighting the arm attached. "Martin, stop it!" a voice hissed near his ear, "I don't believe that Carolyn would like a human alarm waking her a few hours early." It still took him a few minutes before the voice registered in his head as Douglas. He stopped fighting and the hand moved.

He whispered, "What are you doing up?"

"Keeping you from screaming the rest of us awake."

"Fine, now go away." He pulled the blanket back up and turned his back to him. He pretended to go back to sleep while Douglas walked away. He turned back when the seat next to him reclined back. "What are you doing?"

"Keeping you from waking everyone else up." He settled down and managed to throw an arm around him. Martin's head settled down on his shoulder. "They're irrational, Martin. Your nightmares are always irrational."

"No, they're not."

"You are a pilot, a captain of an aeroplane. And Carolyn would never fire you without hearing you first." He lightly kissed the top of his forehead.

"How do you know it was those two?"

"The only other one you cry from is the death one, and you didn't come over to me, making sure I was alive." He didn't get an answer, just a head adjusting and a body trying to get closer.

"Can't we lie down in the aisle?"

"I am not destroying my back so you can be closer." A sigh and shuffling could be heard. "And you're not sitting on me, Martin." The shuffling stopped and the head returned. "Just go to sleep." He felt the breathing even out before he laid his head against his and went to sleep.
Another Cabin Pressure.

I should have worked on something for Yule. Oh well. Merry Yule!
